As the salty breeze whispers through the coastal trees and the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the bay, I can't help but feel a sense of profound gratitude. We've recently made the move to Mornington, a picturesque town nestled on the stunning Mornington Peninsula, and every day beckons new color and inspiration.
The decision to relocate wasn't made lightly. As you might know, we recently spent 3 years in the beautiful mountainous Dandenong Ranges, renovating our charming white weatherboard cottage. After a few years of life in the treetops, my husband and I yearned for the coast. We wanted a space where Isla could play and grow, surrounded by the life and energy that only comes with being by the ocean. And of course, as an artist, I was seeking a landscape that would spark my creativity and feed my soul.
Above: Our Dandenong Ranges home, now sold. I'll forever miss this beautiful home, it's gorgeous outlook amongst the trees, and the memories of our first year with Isla here.
Mornington has answered that call in ways I couldn't have imagined. The rugged coastline, with its dramatic cliffs and hidden coves, is a constant source of awe. It's the best of both worlds with all the conveniences of inner city living while being surrounded by ocean, rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. There's a vibrant community here, with its bustling markets, art galleries, and cafes, which provides a sense of connection and belonging.
As I settle into this new chapter, I find myself drawn to the simple pleasures that Mornington offers. Morning walks along the beach have become a cherished ritual. And there's nothing quite like a leisurely afternoon spent browsing the local markets, discovering fresh produce, handmade treasures, and exploring all the community has to offer. There's something about this pace of life that allows me to truly connect with my surroundings and my inner self. I find myself more present, more mindful, and more open to the beauty that surrounds me.
Of course, as an artist, my surroundings are a constant source of inspiration. The ever-changing moods of the ocean, the patterns of the native flora, and the interplay of light and shadow on the landscape all find their way into my mind as I plan my next collections.
The move to Mornington has been a homecoming of sorts, a return to a more authentic way of being. It's a place where I can nurture my creativity, connect with my family, and find solace in the beauty of the ocean. As I look ahead, I'm filled with excitement for all that this new chapter holds.
I can't wait to explore the hidden gems of the peninsula, from the lavender fields of Main Ridge to the historic Cape Schanck Lighthouse. I'm eager to discover new walking trails, indulge in the region's wineries, and immerse myself in the local arts scene. And of course, I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you, as I continue to capture the essence of my inspiration on the canvas.
This move has been more than just a change of address. It's a shift in perspective, a reminder to slow down, appreciate the present moment, and find beauty in the everyday. So for now, Mornington will inspire and nourish my creative spirit, providing the perfect backdrop for a life filled with art, love, and connection.
